Staff Profile

Even in Rome I must make time for email!
Name: Hemi Brown

Position: General Manager New Zealand

How long have you been working at Heidelberg? 8 years

Tell us about your hobbies
I like hobbies which take me outside into the environment, I do a lot of walking tracks along beaches, rivers or anyway scenic. My most exciting hobby is snowboarding which is really exhilarating and gives me the chance to get into the mountains. I have an old mountain bike which I have not used much since I have been in Auckland so my next project is to buy a new one and get back into it.

What is your favorite place and why?
Queenstown in NZ is my favorite place because no matter how many times I go there the scenery and fresh air is so uplifting. You can do many outdoor activities there or just chill out and relax at a café or beside the lake.

Your favorite movie and why?
2001 Space Odyssey, it is magnificently filmed. I still don't know what it is about - does anyone really know?

The most challenging experience you've had?
I did a four day rafting adventure 200kms down a river in the mountains in NZ, we carried all our supplies on the raft with five blokes on board. Every night we had to set up camp and cook food and sit around the fire drinking, we were so tired from the daily routine that we ended up bringing most of the drink home as we were too tired to stay up to get through it.

Describe a typical day at work
A typical day at work for me is a balance of spreading my time between trying to add value to our customers by showing them new technology and how it can save them money or open new opportunities for them. Also, making sure the employees in NZ are on track in whatever role they have which supports the customer's business. No day in Heidelberg would be complete without getting on top of the constant volume and e mails and phone calls

What qualities do you have that improve customer satisfaction?
I think my strength is in improving customer satisfaction is by taking a very close interest in their business and using the tools we have in Heidelberg to add value to them.

What do you like best about working at Heidelberg?
Working in Heidelberg is very exciting because there is always something new just around the corner either technology or a customer issue to challenge you, it is never boring!

The most memorable moment at Heidelberg
There have been many memorable moments at Heidelberg particularly around good times spent with colleagues or customers, but I guess the proudest moment was winning inaugural Gutenberg Sales Award when I had only been with Heidelberg for three years.

What would you be doing if you didn't work for Heidelberg?
If I was not working for Heidelberg I would find a job in the outdoors and say goodbye to the city!

Where do you see yourself in five years time?
Hopefully still working for Heidelberg in role which keeps me excited and motivated.
