Heidelberg has a range of Spray Powders to suit any application.
There are many variables to consider when selecting the correct
powder and grain size. The main consideration is the type of stock,
or more accurately, the underside of the stock that is to be
printed upon. Other considerations are the Ink or coating to be
used, the height of the stack and the processes to be done after
the print run e.g. laminating.
K4 Spray Powder is an inorganic mineral based powder made of
natural Calciumcarbonate. Because of its high specific weight it
does not create as much dust as organic starch-based powders and
allows for minimum consumption, as most of the powder reaches the
sheet, making for less cleaning and maintenance. However users
should note that K4 Spray Powder is not suitable for subsequent
Varnishing or Laminating.
S5 Spray Powder is an organic starch-based powder that
is suitable for all applications and all dry spraying equipment. It
is lighter than K4 and creates more dust, however if the right
grain size is selected dust can be kept to a minimum as not as much
powder is required. To overcome the dust problem KSL have produced
an "upgrade" to this product - S5/16 and 22. By removing
most particles of 10 microns and under from the powder less dust is
created. When used correctly S5 is suitable for subsequent
Varnishing or Laminating, will not form blisters or spots and
leaves a smooth surface. When using Aqueous Coatings on the press
S5WL should be used.
L3 Spray Powder is a natural sugar-based powder and is ideal
for printing multi-colour work on a single or 2 colour press when
the first pass needs to be sprayed. The powder is dissolved by the
water on the blanket via the dampeners and the plate.L3 Spray
Powder is ideal for subsequent Varnishing and Laminating if run
through the press under impression a final time to dissolve the
powder using the moisture on the blanket. Because it dissolves on
the blanket no deposits are left behind and cleaning intervals are
extended many times over. Machine contamination is minimal as there
is no fine dust. Printers should also note that L3 Spray Powder
cannot be used on electrostatic spray units.
