At Ruter Press in Laholm / Sweden a POLAR 176 machine has been
cutting large-format materials sized 130 x 185 cm for four years
now.
Since the mid-1990s Ruter Press has developed from a simple
postcard printer to a well-established commercial printer.
The company runs three presses asix-colour and two
five-colour presses, each equipped with a UV varnishing unit.
The particular advantage is that these presses with their
different sizes allow Ruter Press to take on a broad range of work
across many formats, from 52 x 72 to 130 x 185. This combination
permits them to process many orders both quickly and
cost-effectively.
When the presses were purchased the company also invested in
two new folding machines, a saddle stitcher and a POLAR cutting
system for 7b formats. These investments, along with their two web
offset presses (16-page and 8-page machines), Ruter Press now
offers a range of equipment for manufacturing fine packaging
products and high-quality magazines and journals which is almost
unique in Europe.
Today Ruter Press is one of the biggest printing plants in
Sweden, with 80 employees and a turnover of 25 million euros per
annum securing work from the Nordics, Germany and the former
Eastern Bloc.
In the finishing process POLAR's cutting system at Ruter
Press is certainly the most flexible installation ever, owing to
its two methods of loading. About 75% of the material to be cut is
previously jogged in a RA-7S jogger. After that, the ream is
manually pushed across the front table and into the high-speed
cutter. The Autoturn turning gripper automatically turns the reams,
which are positioned on the rear table before they are cut. The cut
labels are then unloaded manually over the front table and onto a
Transomat EL 160-7s which automatically places the material onto a
pallet.
Ream-by-ream a Transomat loading unit automatically takes the
remaining 25% of the material to be cut from the pallet and feeds
it to the rear table by means of a gripper system. Such cutting
jobs usually require only a four-side trim, which is carried out
automatically. From this point, the processes are performed in the
same way as for the jogged material. Every day an average of nine
to ten pallets of material sized 130 x 185 cm are processed in this
way. In general, about nine cuts are performed during each cutting
process.
The postpress area at Ruter is currently operating three
shifts per day. Both the operators and management have decided in
favor of the POLAR system because of its flexibility and
highly-efficient turning gripper. Most impressive for Ruter has
been the high level of automation the system has to offer. POLAR
has been supplying the world market with 155 and 176 high-speed
cutters for many years. These machines are perfectly processing
cutting materials in formats 6 and 7S.
