Who’s-Who of ANZ Print Industry Attend Heidelberg Simultaneous Plate Change Open House
12-10-2011
Over 100 people were at Heidelberg's Melbourne Print Media
Academy (PMA) last night to learn about how Simultaneous Plate
Change can help printers save money and make money at the same
time.
The theme for the event was '90 Seconds to Change Your
Business', and guests were shown how Heidelberg's Simultaneous
Plate Change technology can dramatically cut plate change times for
each job, thus achieving significant time and cost savings, as well
as profit increases, for their print shops.
The technology was demonstrated on the Speedmaster XL 105-6
LX press (6 colour with coater and extended delivery) which also
has Prinect Inpress Control for inline colour control on the fly.
In the 20-minute demonstration guests saw four jobs run, with
Simultaneous Plate Change allowing the press operator to quickly
and easily get the entire next job ready in the time it would
normally take to change just one plate on one printing unit. In
fact the job changes (which included changing from light to heavy
stocks) were so smooth that many members of the audience didn't
even know that the plate changes were happening until printed
sheets with completely different artwork than the previous job were
displayed.
HAN's General Manager for Product Management, Lindsay Barnes,
took the audience through the four print jobs, explaining how the
technology works and how they can see the Inpress Control in action
on the Wallscreen and how a printer can easily and effectively
check colour without slowing the press or pulling sheets. Lindsay
went on to explain how Heidelberg's Pressroom Manager software
allows print shop owners to view all job and production data
remotely - even from their Smart phones. Lindsay was able to talk
the audience through the four job changes in a 20 minute
period. Without Inpress Control and Simultaneous Plate Change
most printers would take the entire 20 minute period to prepare
just one job, let along produce four runs of 500 sheets.
Alastair Hadley, General Manager Sales & Marketing for
Heidelberg Australia/New Zealand (HAN) said, "It's not often I say
that you won't believe what I am telling you, but with our
Simultaneous Plate Change technology I've had to admit that it is
something which, even to me, sounded too good to be true. This
means that the best way to convince our customers of its benefits
is to invite them to see it for themselves.
This sort of technology means the bigger you are, in terms of
printing units, the greater the savings. But savings are achievable
at all levels - it's all relative. Add to this our inline colour
control and you have an example of the most efficient and effective
print technology available today."
Guests flew into Melbourne from as far afield as Perth and
New Zealand, with many opting to stay the night in Melbourne just
to spend a few hours at the PMA and learn about Heidelberg's
revolutionary technology. Guest speaker at the event was Douglas
Mooney, Heidelberg's Asia-Pacific region head of Sheetfed
printing. Douglas spoke to guests about the worldwide
uptake of Simultaneous Plate change and illustrated what the
world's most successful and innovative printers were achieving with
this technology.
Hadley sums up the event, "After the doom and gloom of the
global financial crisis and seeing its impact on print, it is
gratifying to see so many print industry business leaders and
innovators taking the time to look at technology developments. We
already have a number of customers using this technology and many
prospects for upcoming investment. The future is
simultaneously bright and exciting."
