New features increase ease of use, functionality and reliability
of popular finishing tool
Heidelberg will unveil an updated version of the durable
Quickbinder QB 200 at Graph Expo and Converting Expo 2002. This new
binder - designed with curved covers and new colors - is now
available to the North American print market through Heidelberg
USA.
The QB 200 is a solution for perfect finishing up to 5,000
copies. Its new design features an intuitive touch-screen control
that instructs in setup, operation, control glue temperatures,
scraper timings, operating speed and fault indications.
A single position clutch replaces a shear pin to protect the
clamp drive during jams. This eliminates 60 percent of service
calls. Additionally, functions such as milling, gluing, cover
feeding and nipping are now controlled by individual inverters and
motors instead of fixed timing with chains and sprockets.
Presentations highlighting the features, business benefits
and many applications of the binder will be given throughout each
day of Graph Expo.
"The QB 200 saves time, reduces costs, eliminates the
intermediate transfer of jobs and increases the value add for
printers," said Steven Calov, product manager for Heidelberg
saddlestitching and perfect binding equipment. "It epitomizes
quality, durability and reliability and its new, upgraded features
make it very operator friendly. No doubt, the QB 200 will
substantially increase net output."
Other key features and modifications of the Quickbinder QB
200 include the following:
- PLC control of the delivery conveyor now handles batch
counting, including book count and book spacing
- Nipping unit no longer actuates if the cover is not fed. This
saves operators 50 percent of their time by not having to keep
cleaning glue out of the nipping unit.
- Cover feeder angle changed to reduce marking
- Blow bar modified to direct air when it's most needed
- One Becker dual-function pump replaces the former two-pump
system
- Clamp chain guide now nylon instead of steel, reducing noise
and maintenance and eliminating lubrication points
- Gear-driven side glue wheels matched to the speed of the
clamp automatically
- Remote operator control station is standard so operator can
move around freely and control the machine during makeready
- Service and support assisted by data collected by the
PLC/touch-screen interface
