New software and accessories to bolster black-and-white digital
printing productivity
Heidelberg Digital L.L.C. has developed a new software
platform and product accessories that will greatly enhance digital
printing productivity and workflow.
The latest portfolio of Heidelberg products adds new
capabilities and functionality to high-volume printing solutions,
including the Heidelberg Digimaster print engine.
- Heidelberg ImageSmart Document Mastering Software and
Workstation. The software employs a PDF-based workflow to enhance
pre-flighting for document assembly, viewing, editing and
proofing. The hardware workstation works seamlessly with the new
software to deliver maximum speed and efficiency.
- Heidelberg ImageSmart Production Software, which expands the
Digimaster's functionality to offer full PDF support.
- Heidelberg Inserter, a Digimaster 9110 accessory offering the
ability to insert both pre-printed color and image-rich documents
into black-and-white documents, easily, without slowing down
workflow.
- Heidelberg Imagedirect 665 Production Scanner, which delivers
true 600 x 600-dpi resolution at its full speed of 65 pages
per minute. The scanner, announced in May, will be available in
the first quarter of 2001.
Heidelberg also will offer a solution for on-demand perfect
bookbinding, made by C.P. Bourg and supported by Heidelberg.
"For 150 years, Heidelberg has been a leader in
developing innovative technology solutions for our customers,"
said Tomas Roztocil, Senior Vice President of Research and
Development, Heidelberg Digital. "Today, Heidelberg Digital is
extending that tradition, with a new software platform and
accessories that will change the face of digital high-volume
black-and-white printing and enable printers to maximum their
productivity and their profits."
Roztocil added that existing customers can take advantage of
the new products and accessories as upgrade options, so they can
make the most out of their current equipment investment.
The Digimaster engine is designed to meet the workflow needs
of on-demand printing and duplicating. The system enables 110-page
per minute black-and-white printing and employs an open
architecture that is easily integrated into networks. It prints
stored document or image files, scanned hard copy and data print
streams. Customers can employ the system to easily produce manuals,
booklets and other frequently revised publications, as well as
customized documents, such as financial reports and brochures.
Like its Digimaster print engine, the new solutions will be
available through Canon, Danka, Heidelberg and IBM. These companies
sell its print engine to the world's print-on-demand customers.
- Canon offers the imageRUNNER 110.
- Danka and Heidelberg sell the Digimaster 9110.
- IBM employs the engine in its Infoprint 2000 RP1, NP1 and DP1
solutions.
The sales channels have helped the Digimaster engine make a
name for itself in the industry, as Heidelberg Digital recently
shipped its 1,000th engine in its first year in the market.
