Since its presenation at drupa 2004, the Speedmaster XL 105 has
become the benchmark in terms of production speed, print stability,
and output, and more than 1,200 installations worldwide prove its
unique position in this performance class. The Speedmaster XL 106
is the consistent further development of the successful Speedmaster
XL 105. 18,000 sheets per hour in straight printing and in
perfecting mode are unrivaled peak values. A 20 percent higher
production means new opportunities for the highly industrialized
commercial printer. The perfect interplay between preset
functionality, a sheet travel optimized for maximum production
speed and a machine that is consequently designed for top print
quality as well as straightforward operation make the Speedmaster
XL 106 the Peak Performance machine in the 70 x 100 format.
The Speedmaster XL 106 is equipped with components that help
to reduce makeready time and to increase productivity. Heidelberg
is the only manufacturer who supplies databases for characteristic
curves for different substrates, speeds, and inks ex factory. This
avoids many manual corrections of the complete machine and the
production speed is reached much faster. The automatic wash-up
devices for inking rollers, blanket and impression cylinder with
optimized and individual washing programs across all series reduce
washing times of up to 30 percent. This reduces washing of the
blanket to 50 seconds in total. The Hycolor inking and dampening
system in combination with the Color Package not only ensures the
best possible inking stability in virtually no time, it also
reduces makeready time as well as the number of waste sheets over
the whole run length at any speed. The new control panel concept
with glass touchscreen at feeder, printing and coating units allows
a uniform operation of the complete machine. A process-oriented
production process is thus ensured in conjunction with Prinect
Press Center.
And even the integration of inkjet systems in the printing
press has become reality. The inkjet module in the Speedmaster XL
106 enables together with Prinect Inspection Control the monitoring
of individual single multiple-ups and the marking of incorrect
multiple-ups. These marked multiple-ups can be detected
automatically in postpress, for example in the folding carton
gluing machine, and ejected. Of course, imprinting of alphanumeric
codes is also possible.
The Speedmaster XL 106 offers the broadest configuration
spectrum. This ranges from two to 17 units with or without
perfecting device, for processing inmould foils up to kraft
cardboard. A made-to-measure machine for your applications: as
L-P-L configuration, as Duo press or as rotary. It can be
customized to very specific requirements, for example in an L-P-L
(Coating-Perfecting-Coating) and Duo configuration (flexo units
before the printing units) or as a rotary die cutter for products
such as inmold labels.
As a pioneer for eco-friendly printing Heidelberg develops
solutions to reduce

process emissions as well as waste and to eliminate it. But the
Speedmaster XL 106 is not only the benchmark for productivity.
The high energy efficiency and the careful use of resources
make it the most eco-friendly machine in its class. This is
documented by the test seal "emission-tested printing
machine" of the employers' liability insurance association
and confirms that the strict threshold values have been complied
with. his applies to all conventional and UV presses. If requested,
the Speedmaster XL 106 can be offered as a
CO
2-neutral
press, as is the case with all other presses from Heidelberg. One
possibility to reduce the energy demand is to use again the waste
heat of the DryStar Combination dryer for the drying process by
means of heat recovery. With the PowderStar AP 500 powder spray
device and its innovative powder application system, savings of up
to 50 percent can be obtained. The complete enouncement of alcohol
is another important contribution to eco-friendly printing. This
results in a print process that ensures eco-friendly operation at
lower costs.
