Millling Disks

Essential to achieve the best binding quality. Milling is the process by which the spines of a book are prepared for adhesive binding. It is one of the most important aspects of the binding process. The quality of a milling tool will help determine the strength and durability of the adhesive bond. Of particular importance are the form of the milling teeth and the quality of the milling tool's notching knives and roughening teeth. There are milling disks for every type of paper; knowing which one to choose is key in ensuring the optimum adhesive bond.

Milling disks designed by Heidelberg. To complete our extensive portfolio of service parts, we have designed milling disks optimized for use on Heidelberg® Eurobind® 500 and Eurobind 1200 machines. Use only original Heidelberg milling disks to ensure the highest production quality and keep ahead of the competition.

Milling disks with PICs. Our new milling disks include small roughing spires called "PICs" located on the milling teeth themselves. PICs are designed to roughen the edge of the paper sheet, thereby opening up the fibers. This gives the glue a better grip on the paper and ensures a very stable adhesive bond. The height of the notching knives can be adjusted so as to increase the glue working surface and obtain a strong "clamp" effect.
