Prinect is the print shop workflow from Heidelberger Druckmaschinen
AG (Heidelberg) and integrates the complete range of print shop
management and production processes. Prinect optimizes, simplifies
and automates workflows based on an open data standard - the
central JDF document - that contains all the job data. Virtually
all Heidelberg presses, platesetters and postpress equipment can be
integrated into the Prinect print shop workflow. As a founder
member of the CIP4 organization, Heidelberg plays a major role in
developing and shaping open standards such as JDF and PPF for the
print media industry.
Print shop management with Prinect
With Prinect, Heidelberg is the only manufacturer to offer a
print shop workflow that integrates and manages the entire print
production process. Basically speaking, print shop processes can be
broken down into eight separate areas that can be depicted using
Prinect
- Online customer connection
- Print shop management
- Digital print workflow
- Prepress workflow
- Makeready optimization
- Color and quality management
- Machine operation
- Services
Fully functional module designations facilitate an overview
Prinect is based on a system of hardware and software
modules. This allows the print shop workflow to be adapted flexibly
to the requirements of each individual company. All the different
parts of a print shop can be integrated using the six so-called
Managers of the Prinect workflow. Once generated at the start of
the process chain, data is available for all subsequent
applications at any time - right up to the finished product - based
on Job Definition Format (JDF):
- Prinect Business Manager (previously Prinect Prinance)
- Prinect Integration Manager (previously Prinect Integration
System)
- Prinect Prepress Manager (previously Prinect Printready
System)
- Prinect Digital Print Manager
- Prinect Pressroom Manager
- Prinect Postpress Manager
When the Prinect Business Manager (previously Prinect Prinance)
management information system (MIS) is used for costing, it defines
all job-specific production steps and thereby prestructures each
job. The open interfaces to the software components of subsequent
parts of the process chain allow seamless job processing at the
print shop. Based on predefined costing methods, each individual
job can be costed and coordinated separately.
As the overarching process control system, Prinect
Integration Manager links all the systems and brings together all
the different parts of a print shop. An electronic planning board
known as the Prinect Scheduler provides the personnel in charge
with an excellent overview of how the involved, and thus integrated
machines are assigned.
Prinect Prepress Manager (previously Prinect Printready
System) is the prepress production workflow that simplifies and
speeds up prepress tasks. By communicating with Prinect Business
Manager, it is possible to automate all prepress production steps -
from data acceptance, file testing and impositioning to proofing
and plate imaging.
Prinect Digital Print Manager makes it possible to integrate
digital printing systems from leading manufacturers into the
Prinect workflow.
Prinect Pressroom Manager manages and controls all data
required for actual print production. All job and production data
is collected in a digital job folder and is available to the
relevant user - in real time of course. Everyone involved has
access to the exact data they need. Print jobs are automatically
forwarded to the press in the form of the relevant JDF files,
without manual intervention.
Prinect Postpress Manager enables online linking of postpress
equipment and data exchange with these units.
Well-structured display with clear graphics
With Prinect, all processes are always transparent. Even
in the event of changes, production can be adapted quickly and
transparently, allowing all processes to be controlled effectively.
Prinect is the print shop workflow from Heidelberg. Production and
management processes are integrated into a single workflow. Areas
that were previously separate are now growing closer together, as
is apparent from the new Prinect graphics:
