The presses with tubular blankets will be installed at Rotosud
in Reyrieu and Rotopicardie in Amiens
The IPS group, fully owned subsidiary of Spir Communication,
which holds second place in the free sheet market in France, has
just signed a contract to purchase two Mainstream presses. These
two newspaper presses with tubular blankets are to be installed at
Rotosud in Reyrieu (Rhône-Alpes region), which is fully owned
by the IPS, and at Rotopicardie Amiens (Somme), in which IPS has a
major shareholding.
On the Rotosud site, which is essentially dedicated to the
Spir group´s printing of free sheets, the Mainstream will
print about 2 000 000 copies a week, whilst "Le Galibot",
free sheet distributed in the North of France, will be printed at
Rotopicardie, producing approximately 3 500 000 copies a week. The
installation of the Mainstream presses is planned for Spring 2002,
replacing existing presses. "We wanted to offer more colour in
our pubications, together with higher paginations, 4 page
increments and increased advertising possibilities", said
Francis Cartoux, Chairman of the IPS group. "The Mainstream is
the perfect answer to our needs and will open up new
horizons"", he continued. "It is double web width press,
which will allow higher pagination and 4 page increments in tabloid
format. Sunday technology, which offers higher colour print quality
and a speed of 80,000 copies per hour, will offer a clear advantage
over the competition. It will allow us to be more reactive with our
free publications."
The two Mainstream presses offer an identical configuration.
Each has 4 towers, 28 inking systems, 6 Contiweb FD reelstands and
a JF 255 folder fitted with double chopper fold, with a 578.5
millimeter cut-off and a web width of 1700 millimeters. "This
order from Spir Communication, which follows the order from the
Telegraph Group in the United Kingdom, confirms the success of
Sunday Technology for newspapers," said Jacques Navarre, Sales
Director Europe of Heidelberg Web Systems. "It also proves
that the Mainstream is an industrial tool which matches the needs
of today´s newspaper and free sheet publishers, offering new
opportunities and a significant competitive."
