Heidelberg Introduces a New Feeder Concept for the Dymatrix 106 Pro CSB Die Cutter

05/28/2008

  • Exceptional production stability at very high speeds and shorter makeready times with the Heidelberg Preset Plus Feeder
  • DySet Pro automatic register system with lateral alignment to printed marks cuts the number of missing sheets and jams in the die cutter's feeder
At drupa 2008, Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG (Heidelberg) will be presenting the Dymatrix 106 Pro CSB (cutting, stripping, and blanking) die cutter, which is equipped with a whole new set of features compared to the Dymatrix 106 CSB. These include a new feeder concept that has been customized for the specific needs of packaging printers and postpress specialists.

Other new developments include connection to the tried-and-tested Preset Plus Feeder of the Speedmaster XL 105, reduced makeready times due to automatic format presettings, and exceptional production stability at very high speeds. The die cutter can also be integrated into the Prinect workflow. Market launch is planned for the second quarter of 2009.

The optional DySet Pro automatic feed system will be available from drupa 2008. The system aligns sheets accurately before they are transferred to the grippers, thereby significantly reducing the number of missing sheets and jams. As a result, users can achieve the ultimate in end-to-end register accuracy and outstanding net throughput.

The Preset Plus Feeder for die cutters - exceptional stability at very high production speeds
Engineers at Heidelberg have succeeded in connecting the tried-and-tested Preset Plus Feeder of the Speedmaster XL 105 to the Dymatrix 106 Pro CSB die cutter. As a result, the die cutter can now be seamlessly integrated into the Prinect workflow. Automatic format presetting for suction heads, side blowers, and air values cuts makeready times dramatically. Data for format presetting can be sent to the machine via a workflow connection. By using a suction tape, there is no need to input additional format settings for the guide rollers and brushes on the belt table. What's more, there are no sheet guidance elements on the feed table, which eliminates the danger of marking in this area. A pile centering system and sheet arrival and misaligned sheet control ensure smooth sheet travel. All in all, this results in uninterrupted production processes that yield higher net throughput.

The Preset Plus Feeder is ideal for packaging printers who specialize in the printing and die cut of cardboard. It is designed for high and reliable production speeds in the 750 x 1,060 millimeter (29.53 x 41.73 inch) format across the entire thickness range from 0.03 to 1 millimeter (0.0012 to 0.039 inch). For example, a speed-compensated rotary valve on the suction head ensures ultra-precise sheet separation. The multi-chamber design of the central suction tape can be adjusted for whatever suction air is required and delivers faultless and precise sheet transfer into the feed unit.

A multi-stage sheet monitoring system prevents multiple sheets being transported to the feed table. Just like the ultrasonic double-sheet detection system of the DySet Pro, the mechanical double-sheet detector also identifies sheets that are stuck together. Shingle stream control and a multiple sheet detector are recommended as an additional safeguard when processing cardboard.
DySet Pro - precision die cutting for a broad range of materials
There is no need to switch between push and pull modes with the DySet Pro automatic register system. This patented register system makes it possible to align sheets laterally according to the sheet edge, print image, or printing marks. Consequently, the Dymatrix 106 Pro CSB can run at top speeds throughout and transfer sheets smoothly to the grippers. Even tricky layouts can be processed reliably.

DySet Pro also enables users to process extremely disorderly pallet piles by ensuring that sheets are fed in accurately - even at high production speeds. The core element of DySet Pro is an optical sheet sensor. When a pallet pile reaches the feeder and the sheets are separated on the belt table, the front lays in the machine register their alignment. The optical sensor then measures the lateral edges of the sheets, a printing mark, or the print image itself and corrects the lateral position of each sheet where necessary, before it is transferred to the gripper assembly. This transports the sheets to the cutting stations.

DySet Pro is suitable for sheet formats from 350 x 400 millimeters (13.78 x 15.75 inches) to a maximum of 760 x 1,060 millimeters (29.92 x 41.73 inches). When operating at a top speed of 9,000 sheets per hour, the machine can easily process a minimum grammage of 80 grams per square meter for paper and a maximum of 1,000 grams per square meter for card, solid board, or corrugated board with a maximum thickness of 2 millimeters (0.079 inches). The highly sensitive sensors can also process materials with critical colors. Machine operators control DySet Pro via the user-friendly touchscreen.

The Dymatrix 106 Pro CSB die cutter
The Dymatrix 106 Pro CSB is the ideal machine for folding carton manufacturers and postpress specialists. Its outstanding versatility enables it to produce folding cartons made from card or corrugated board, as well as labels and beer coasters. Folding cartons are used to package products such as cigarettes, candy, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, food, and non-food goods. Exceptional quality standards are achieved thanks to the moving upper platen and the patented DySet Pro register system. DySet Pro is available for both the standard feeder and the Preset Plus Feeder.
