Heidelberg at IPEX 2010: Hosts of Innovations Make Printing More Efficient and Ecologic

Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG expects topics such as "lean production" and "ecological printing" to play a major role. To ready itself and its customers for these and other megatrends, Heidelberg has geared its "HEI Performance-HEI Value" portfolio towards maximum efficiency. All solutions are designed to optimize the business and production processes of media service providers, printshops, and postpress specialists and reduce pollution to a minimum.

Practical examples demonstrate the benefit
At IPEX, Heidelberg will introduce numerous innovations to show how these solutions work in practice. For instance, visitors will be able to see how Prinect color-measuring and color-control systems novelties can contribute to a company's profitability or how a new version of the Prinect Pressroom Manager enhances efficiency by linking prepress and third-party management information systems (MIS). Apropos prepress, Heidelberg will also introduce the Suprasetters A52/A75 with a Dual Top Loader for two different plate sizes. Although fully automated, the two Suprasetters require less power than comparable models from other manufacturers.

World premiere in offset printing
IPEX visitors will also be able to experience the world premiere of the Speedmaster CX 102-5+L: a new industrial offset printing press with a production speed of 16,500 sheets per hour. Using the Speedmaster XL 105, Heidelberg is to demonstrate a non-stop delivery that further enhances the productivity and process reliability of the press. The Speedmaster XL 75 can now also be operated with CleanStar, which cuts the fine dust level in the pressroom by up to 80 percent. Those who print shorter runs ought to take a look at the Speedmaster SM 52 Anicolor. Printshops that specialize on surface finishing can create stunning metallic effects with the cold-foil module FoilStar while saving material thanks to its index function when transporting foil.

Productivity boost of up to 40 percent
More efficiency is also required in postpress: Heidelberg has improved the ergonomics of the Stitchmaster ST 450 saddlestitcher and raised its level of loading automation higher than ever before by adding a new feeder and streamfeeder. Thanks to a new pneumatic twin lay system, the buckle plate folder Stahlfolder TD 94 increases the folding efficiency by up to 30 to 40 percent. And the Polar CutManager facilitates the online connection of high-speed cutters to the Prinect Postpress Manager, thus enabling their integration into the entire printshop workflow.

New service packages
Heidelberg will also present comprehensive service packages that focus either on "Availability Services" or "Productivity Services". These packages are tailored to customers' needs and reflect the entire value added chain of sheetfed offset printing: they include the whole life cycle of a machine, from investment to resale. Further IPEX topics are "packaging trends" and "web to print". That means Heidelberg will once again be the unchallenged number one supplier of information for sheetfed offset printers.
