Graph Expo: Heidelberg Family of Solutions Offers NexPress 2100 Customers Expanded Variable Data Printing Capabilities

10/07/2002

Broadened software portfolio outputs in new PPML/VDX open standard

At Graph Expo and Converting Expo, Heidelberg is showcasing its NexPress 2100 family of variable data printing solutions that enables custo- mers using the digital production color press to personalize, customize and automate high-volume, high-variable data jobs in the new PPML/VDX VDP open standard.

  • NexTreme DL-100 solution, an easy-to-use Adobe Acrobat plug-in for PC and Mac developed by NexPress, enables fast composition of jobs for customers with low to moderate volumes of variable-data processing.
  • NexTreme DL-1000 high-performance batch composition solution offers the same benefits of NexTreme DL-100, but is ideal for the very high-volume variable printing applications linked with automated fulfillment. DL-100 and Dl-1000 are designed to work together seamlessly.
  • Personalizer-X, PPML/VDX format, developed by Techno Design, is ideal for customers using QuarkXPress to produce a wide range of variable print applications.
  • PrintShop Mail, PPML/VDX format, developed by Atlas Software BV, is a stand-alone application for composing VDP jobs that output in PPML/VDX, and imports page layouts from any application saved as .EPS or .PDF files.
"Heidelberg has always been one of the strongest advocates of open standards in the industry," said Wolfgang Pfizenmaier, president of the Heidelberg Digital Solution Center. "These four software applications demonstrate that the industry is beginning to adopt the wide use of PPML/VDX and leverage the advantages that open workflows produce. Heidelberg's goal is to offer a variety of solutions that meet the needs of our customers in a variety of market segments."

NexTreme DL-100 Solution
Developed by NexPress, this easy-to-use solution enables fast composition of jobs for customers with low to moderate volumes of variable-data processing. It enables NexPress 2100 users to import files from any popular page-layout program, and to work within Adobe Acrobat to compose the VDP job. It will be bundled with all versions of the NexPress 2100 press.

NexTreme DL-1000 Solution
This server-based solution is designed for the very high-volume VDP producers. NexTreme DL1000 is designed to seamlessly integrate with the easy-to-use DL-100 solution for a streamlined client-server workflow. It offers all of the benefits of NexTreme DL-100 solution, with extremely high-speed variable data composition for batch processing and can be integrated with automated fulfillment solutions.

Personalizer-X, PPML/VDX
Techno Design's Personalizer-X is a Macintosh-based Xtensions module for creating personalized documents in QuarkXPress that is compatible with any ASCII database format. The PPML/VDX version is optimized for efficient digital-color print production. The software merges database text information and variable images, bar codes, and graphics into standard QuarkXPress-designed documents.

PrintShop Mail, PPML/VDX
This software offering from Atlas Software is also available with the Heidelberg Digimaster 9110 for black-and-white variable data printing. It is a stand-alone application for composing VDP jobs that output in PPML/VDX, and imports page layouts from any application saved as .EPS or .PDF files. The application also offers WYSIWYG preview capability from within the application.
