At IPEX 2010, Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG (Heidelberg) will be
unveiling the Speedmaster SM 52 Anicolor for UV printing with
process colors. Printers can now enjoy the benefits of Anicolor,
such as low waste and uniform coloring across the entire form, in
UV printing. This makes it possible to print non-absorbent
substrates such as plastics. As a result, printers can produce
special applications such as advertising material, tent cards,
folders, and plastic cards for hotels, purchasing departments and
gas stations, with the aim of standing out from the competition.
Generating only 20 to 30 sheets of waste, this press helps cut
costs and protect the environment, particularly when working with
expensive plastic materials. Depending on the order situation,
print shops can benefit from savings of several hundred thousand
euros a year. UV printing also delivers a high gloss coating and a
print product that is rub resistant and quick drying, which in turn
enables fast finishing.
The Speedmaster SM 52 Anicolor is suitable for established UV
printers, new users who are looking to print shorter runs
effectively, and short-run plastic card printers. With an output of
15,000 sheets per hour, a wide range of substrates from 0.03 mm to
0.6 mm (0.0012 0.024 in), four to ten colors, and coating with
sheet reversal, the press can be adjusted as necessary to meet
customer requirements.
The Speedmaster SM 52 Anicolor for conventional printing was
launched at IPEX 2006 and was taken into series production in 2007.
It has a proven track record in print shops worldwide and is
popular thanks to its high print quality and its ability to use
spot colors. The UV version is the next development stage for
Anicolor technology and is scheduled for market launch from
mid-2010.
Two possible variants - wet offset UV and waterless UV
The Speedmaster SM 52 with Anicolor is specially equipped for
UV operation, with water-cooled inking unit temperature control and
the Alcolor Vario dampening system. Customers can opt for wet
offset UV, waterless UV or a combination of both modes. The
waterless UV variant can, if necessary, also be equipped with a
cooling system for the plate cylinder. The Munich-based company
Giesecke&Devrient (G&D) has been working with Heidelberg
and Anicolor UV in plastic card production for two years now. Since
2008, G&D has operated Speedmaster SM 52 six-color Anicolor UV
presses in a number of its card production facilities, and is in
the process of ordering further machines with this configuration.
G&D is impressed with the presses' uniform inking and the
fact that the startup waste is reduced to just a quarter of its
previous level. The high productivity of the Anicolor presses has
enabled the print shop to overcome the bottleneck in its card
production operations.
Customers can obtain process inks for wet offset UV printing
from Heidelberg as a Saphira product that has been tested for this
special application. Heidelberg can recommend a specific ink series
for use in waterless UV printing. In both cases, it is possible to
apply more or less ink to the print product using different screen
rollers with different cell depth and screen roller temperature
control.
