The Speedmaster That Can See
The Heidelberg Speedmaster CD 74 and Speedmaster XL 105 now come
with a spectral "eye": Prinect Inpress Control. As a
result, the slightest deviations in color no longer stand a chance.
They are recognized immediately and automatically corrected -
without having to pull any sheets.
How can you reduce make-ready times and avoid having to stop
the press and pull sheets? This a question that is particularly on
the minds of print shops with frequent job changes, short runs and
standardized jobs. Heidelberg offers the answer with its Prinect
Inpress Control: The inline measuring system precisely measures
each printed sheet in the color control bar while the press is
running even at printing speeds of up to 18,000 sheets per
Less Waste with Inline Quality Control
"In the case of a straight printing press, a
spectrophotometric measuring system on the last printing unit
measures the color measurement strips and constantly compares the
values with the stored color reference values," explains
Volker Becker, Product Manager of Prinect at Heidelberg. "The
system then transfers any necessary corrections directly to the
machine control Prinect CP2000 Center in order to adjust ink zones
promptly." In the case of perfecting presses there is an
additional measuring unit before the perfecting device.
With Prinect Inpress Control, you can control special colors
just as precisely as process colors (CMYK). The inline measuring
system displays densities and tonal values as well as color
differences. The result is shorter make-ready times since it is no
longer necessary to halt the press during startup. In addition, the
continuous monitoring of the production run minimizes the
possibility of complaints.
No Sacrifice in Quality for Recurring Jobs
Once the values from the OK sheet have been saved, they can
be used for recurring jobs, thus enabling the desired quality to be
reproduced. The Color Assistant function in the machine control
Prinect CP2000 Center supports the color measuring system through
"learning" and the adjustment of ink presettings. In this
way, precise ink presetting is achieved for a sheet right from the
start of the job.
"Especially printers who value high productivity for
standard jobs can benefit from Prinect Inpress Control. Industrial
printers in particular are at an advantage -
including smaller runs," says Bernd Utter. As of December
2006, Prinect Inpress Control is available for the Speedmaster CD
74 and the Speedmaster CD 74-P, and starting mid-2007, it will be
available for the Speedmaster XL 105 as well.
